No, no.....that has to do with the Patriot Act.....and the refusal of librarians to do anything to compromise your freedoms in our little area of everyday life. Maybe you didn't know......libraries were told they had to keep records of patron activity and to be ready to hand them over to the government at a moment's notice. Like, WTF? Maybe your choice of library books doesn't seem that important, but it's insidious.....small seemingly unimportant things first. We just need to nip that sort of expectation in the bud.
NO, we refuse to hand over records of what books people have checked out. NO, we refuse to keep records of internet activity by patron. NO, we refuse to censor what people can see and read.....and think. We're the keepers of our culture's information about our world, past and present, and it should be accessible to all....without fear that the government is gonna decide you're subversive because of what you wanna know about......  As far as that quote goes.....I didn't think it up; in some places the line may not be very thin (probably some of us could stand to lose some weight  ).....and I'm not sure what the blue is about, but it's a nice color......but there we are, we're standing there. |
