Ran around yesterday to dance photos and a baseball game and next week I start teaching a nine week class on Saturdays (after working all week at my regular job) so I need some down time! My dad died february in 1984 and I was still 24 years old.It was too early for me because I was still so young when my daddy died that time but..... My mom died august in 2001 after a couple of years of vegetate and the last 3 years of her life she lay there only in her bed. My own energy was down after some years around about my mom, 24 hours at the day and this day by day. So I allowed me and my family one vacation and my mom went as constant-care patient at the time in a nursing home. I explained to her (althought she couldn`t speak any more but we both did our conversation with our eyes) when I come back I`ll bring you back at home again. But my mom took this chance of situation for to say goodbye without me.A lot of years around and together with my mom it was too difficult for me why she used exactly this time when I wasn't there.I needed a long time to understand it but I did.I have understand that when the time has come that I've to accept what happen,although I don't want it but I've to accept. Maybe it helps a little bit to know there're a lot of us who has got may be the same losses. And I want to say the flowers from Rusty it was so nice! A lot of years around and together with my mom it was too difficult for me why she used exactly this time when I wasn't there.I need a long time to understand it but I did.I have understand that when the times has come that I've to accept what happen,although I don't want it but I've to accept. It sounds like while you were taking care of your mom, she was still trying to take care of you. I've heard many stories like this. The spouse or the children feel guilty they are not there when the loved on dies, but I think people often let go of the fight and die when they are alone because they don't want to do it in front of someone they love or they worry it will be too hard for the loved one. Hugs to all of you who have lost parents. As I get older I appreciate mine more and more - and I am so lucky because my beloved grandma is still alive - and coming back with my mom to spend the next week with us. I was thinking about my mother the other day (she's been gone 14 years now) and had fallen into one of those low spots. I came on the board and read of pwesley's dad's passing and oddly enough, it helped me out of whatever it was I was going through. Not that someone else was feeling the loss, no it was the way he went. You had that extra time with him to talk and although it's never easy you said the things you needed to. I know it's tough right now pwesley but you must hold those precious days close. They always tell us to tell the people we care about that we love them but it seems we don't do it enough. My mother was not supposed to die from a medical procedure that day but she did and now after all this time it's not her passing that upsets me because it was best for her, it's that we didn't have the chance to say goodbye. Dang it sucks getting older. I heard from my mother's younger sister today and I immediately thought someone must have died because I hadn't heard from her since my mother's death. Very happily, she was fine and was writing to let me know a cousin had found my genealogy query on the net and had called our aunt to find out if it was me. Family continues. Having lost both my parents I know the pain you are feeling. It's so good that you were able to be with him. Those moments will be with you always. I didn't find out about your Dad until I logged on just a little while ago because ironically,I just got home from a funeral in NY late last night. My sister's husband died last Sunday, and though it was very sad, it was a relief in many ways as he was suffering terryibly from cancer. I remember the time I had with my Dad when he was ill with Alzhiemer's desease. The night before he died I spent a lovely visit with him. I gently rubbed him down with lotion, gave him an manicure and pedicure and put him in his clean flannel PJ's I brought to the nursing home. He seemed so content that night, instead of the agitated state he was usually in. I beleive he knew it was time for him to let go. When I got the call early the next morning, I cried with relief for him to finally be at rest. Getting to be with family, sharing stories about those who've left us, which can be funny, sad and yet wonderful all at the same time is the best medicine. My mom and dad are both in their late seventies, and are currently living with my grandmother to take care of her, who uses a walker but has a grip of steel - sadly, her grip on reality isn't as strong. Last year they finally realized that they couldn't do it all on their own and got a couple of nurses to come in during the day so they could have some time on their own. What's weird is when someone like Sidney Pollack die and I think, "well, he had a good long life" and then I realize that he was younger than my parents! Ack! So I'll join mara with the hugs for all of you, and also thank you because I think you are all reminding me (and everyone else) to make sure I tell my family that I love them!
