I got a late start but calendars are in the works - still in the design stage but I'm working my Wacom tablet as hard as it will let me! (I'm shamelessly re-using the graphic from last year as I haven't wanted to take precious time away from calendars to create a new one.) I'm not sure you realise but this year is the 10th anniversary of the RC Calendars! Wow, I can't believe it - 10 years! Makes me feel old but strangely young at the same time. So to mark that event I wanted to make them a bit special this year. Don't get too excited...there's still no center fold and they aren't supersized! Sorry! But I am designing them entirely within Photoshop this year so that's giving me a bit more creative freedom and so I'm taking it! I don't want to go into what will be different this year, I'd rather see how y'all react. If you don't like the changes, feel free to say so. I love feedback! Some of the changes, though, are strictly for the 10th anniversary edition. Without being specific let me just say that there is more ink involved! And more ink means more printing time is needed so you need to be aware that they might be a bit late. I hate that so I will try my best to get them out on time but I think I should warn you. This is a one-woman operation so it's time and energy that dictates how many I can do. I'm very sorry if this means I may have to say no to someone this time around! CC moderator Crowe Crossing Member Posts: 2259 (12/05/2009 03:26 PM) Duchess of Denim CC Admin Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Report Post	Several people have asked me about my process in the making of the calendars the so here it is: (Warning-long and possibly boring so you may want to skip this post.) 1.search out and choose pics, quotes, fonts etc that I might use in layouts 2.decide which characters and themes to explore 3.process pics in PS 4. make any elements, frames, personalized graphics, tidbits, december and end page specific graphics, that I need in Photoshop 5. add pics, graphics, text (choose a font that suits), etc to a blank document page and play with the layout -this stage is a long one as I'm an endless tweaker! Typically each page I work on has as many as 12 different drafts and then I need to choose one or if none seem right then I typically leave it for a couple of days and reassess. If it still doesn't work then it's trashed and I go back to square one. 6.test print the layouts. If the print doesn't look good then that layout is junked and I start back at step one. 7.choose which pages make it into the calendar. The leftover themes or ideas I've worked on I keep and some may end up in subsequent calendars and some just never seem to make it. Assign months to the layouts that do make it. 8. make grid (date) pages to match each layout 9.final tweaking of each layout -this is a tough stage for me as it's hard for me to stop tweaking and accept the page. (The steps above take about 3 months and usually run concurrently, not as separated as I've made them here.) 10. printing! this stage takes 2-3 weeks. Make a cheat sheet, that is taped above my printer, so I know what page to print on the back of each grid page. This sounds like it should be easy to not screw-up but there is something in my brain that can't keep it straight unless I use a visual aid . It saves me a lot of paper. Pages are printed one at a time and I need to log each page so I don't print a personalized page twice and I print the correct number of pages so everyone gets a complete calendar. (I ended up with a few extra Octobers last year. Must have been the subject matter. ) Each page takes 12-24 hours to dry and I can only do so many pages a day so this is the period of time in which no flat surface is safe in my house. (sorry hubby. ) Grid pages first then once they are dry I can print on the other side. 10.do a final count of pages, collate and bind the calendars. Double check that each one is complete, in the correct order and all pages belong to the appropriate person. 11. add stickers and stamps 12. stuff envies, address and tape them 13. dispatch my postal elf (hubby) (he looks so cute in that little hat - and the rest of his clothes, of course!) across the border to the US and mail them on their way. Endure separation anxiety. 14. harness the moose for the Canucks, bribe him with Timbits, and send him off. 15 meet Cat for lunch -my favourite part! wish I could hand-deliver them all! 16 wait to hear that they all arrived safely and read the thread to see what you discover -also a favourite part! 17.clean up my hard drive which, just like a real desk, gets very cluttered and disorganized during a project. 18.By Feb or Mar I'm finally able to print my own calendar and one for my girlfriend who comes to visit each year at that time - a very favourite part! Amazing project done by someone truly deciated to the Crowe man. How wonderful of you to explain what a project this calander making thing is showin us how labor intensive this labor of love is. Probably one that you have to thrash yourself to do but one that for the first time this past year I have loved being able to have. Thank you so much for my 2009 calander and I am requesting a new 2010 calander if at all possible. I am not a charter member but love the subject with all my heart and sense of appreciation for art, talent, ability, devotion to family and fans. What a well turned out gentleman. I thought this was last years thread so I put it off a few days. Dang! Hey Jelly, another charter member checking in. I can't wait to see what you've got planned for the 10th anniversary issue. I know what you mean about a project causing clutter. When I first started working on DVD projects I had to save parts on disks because my hard drive wasn't large enough to hold it all the levels of readiness. Isn't it amazing, the more we learn the BIGGER the project becomes. My son has been making us calendars from his photography the past few years but he's not been completely satisfied so I made him take a closer look at my Joyful Productions. Now I wouldn't be surprised to find a little RC sneaking into his work this year. What we do in life... echoes in eternity. Isis, Queen of Pits

Reading your process made me exhausted and once again I say your hubby must be a saint. Not only do you have 'stuff' laid out over all the surfaces of the house but they're all Russell. Yeah, I look all the way through when I first receive my calendar but just a quickie. Then I don't look ahead at all cause I like to savor each and every month as they arrive.
