welcome back film lovers!!
we had two films (one so-so and one GREAT)
THE GOLDEN DAYS - Trois souvenirs de ma jeunesse is the French title and is more logical than the English version - it means 3 souvenirs of my youth (not so golden, IMO)
Paul is preparing to leave Tajikistan, while thinking back on his adolescent years. His childhood, his mother's madness, the parties, the trip to the USSR where he lost his virginity, the friend who betrayed him and the love of his life
I did not like this film much - it's an award winner but I felt it was too disjointed and way too long. Lots of navel watching and youthful over indulgence. That the lead young actor is very handsome doesnt compensate for ubiquitous smoking and free love. I'm not being a prude, just tired of seeing this on a big screen.
REMEMBER - starring Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau
With the aid of a fellow Auschwitz survivor and a hand written letter, an elderly man with dementia goes in search of the person responsible for the death of his family.
A must see! A true homage to the Hitchcock genre of film-making. The 'old codgers' are excellent to watch as always. Dont be put off by the premise - it's beautifully acted with lovely cinematography and musical score. It's a short film but packs a punch!
