From what I read, which is all jokes about Robin Hood, I expect some more historical accuracy. It's an interesting period, that haven't been explored recently, IMO.
I'd love to see Russell in 12th or close to it century. ![]() Thats what the performance thing is about... Its like taking on that thing totally and living it, and breathing it, because that thing (camera) knows when youre lying. |

Re: Nottingham - Goodies & News | ||
everybody for all the articles! It sounds a new, good, original idea, and after a little surprise I may say that I like the idea! But I have a fear: will audiences be prepared to accept a new story, a new version of two famous characters? Apart from this, it sounds great, I love Russell in a costume,in those times, I love the idea of a love affair. And I love the fact that he wants to make another film and has already accepted to do it. I was very very afraid that he wouldnt sign for something in at least one year or more, so I am happy to see that he isnt wasting time. I am a fan, a hungry fan, I am afraid!

about this deal is the funny play on words in all the articles - some of it is really clever!
yes the 20% back end is a good deal - but remember it depends on who's counting - a movie has to earn quite a bit before any profit can be 'shared.' Of course, if he'd had a backend piece of Gladiator he'd have been amazingly well paid!! I havent been so positive about a new role for him in a while - although I knew he'd be perfect as Aubrey (and he was) and I loved Braddock (even if I was gobsmacked by how much the story hit home). I dont have any qualms about 'acceptance' of this role -reversal in this version of the 'legend' - if Russell is doing it, it's gonna be special. Even AGY turned out to be fun - despite it's unevenness. And I want to bring my vote over here in this thread for Paul Bettany as Little John. I can see him now! Diana has reminded us of how lucky an actor is to be in a flick with Russell - his 'mentoring' record is stellar - and looks like it's gonna continue for a looooooooong time. Once, always, Russell Crowe "beauty...delight...passion" no contemporary actor is better at conveying an uncluttered personal integrity and nobility of spirit. "a very honest performer with a physical charisma and set of technical skills that make him one of the best actors of his generation" |

As much as we like Paul Bettany - and count me in - I do believe doing 3 movies together is too much. It took me a good part of M&C to quit hearing Charles - the dark hair helped. I'd be waaaaay too conscious of "this is their 3rd movie together" to believe them in their roles.
Which kinda defeats the purpose. 'Sides, while Paul's tall, he's not as hefty as I've always pictured Little John to be. After all, LJ was pretty much "an immovable object" until Robin knocked him off that bridge. Liam Neeson has the size, but he's too A-list for a supporting role. Frankly, the fewer known faces in the supporting roles, the better for me. Helps the verisimilitude. IMHO. ----------

My choice would be to have Paul Bettany as Robin Hood.
I saw nothing of Charles or Stephen in his Silas character in Da Vinci. Of course, the makeup helped, but he's quite capable of disappearing into his roles. |

Ray Stephenson (Rome's Titus Pullo) could handle either part, Robin or Little John. He has the size for Little John, but the part would be too similar to Titus, I think. I'd like to see him handle Robin.
This is an exciting project. Haven't been this excited since...uh...Yuma. LOL! Darce |

Ed Norton as Robin Hood.
Paul Giamatti as a revisionist Friar Tuck. Maid Marion? Hmmmm a redhead. How about Jodie Foster? |

I keep hoping Diane Lane will show up in one of Russell's films - I always thought Marion as the most beautiful maiden in the kingdom.................
And, Paul as Little John wouldnt be Russell's sidekick - it's Robin Hood all the way. I think this is definitely going to be "old boys" time on that set - specially if one of Russell's posse of directors ends up at the helm. Hmm....."Maximus in Sherwood Forest"? Bite my tongue!! How about Jim Caviezel ?
He played Jesus in Passion of the Christ And I just saw him in DeJa Vu with Denzel Washington, playing a mass murder. He was very good. We know he can play good and evil. Robin Hood could be a great next move, a more complex character....but obviously second fiddle to Russell's Sheriff. I've seen him in person, he's passionate but serene. |

Jim Caviezel (sp?) in Frequency (oops, D Quaid *bad girl*) and thought he was adorable. He was pretty good in Monte Cristo with Guy Pearce. I dont want to see The Passion (after 12 yrs of Catholic school I dont need to learn more about JC) and I still havent seen Deja Vu.
Good idea pnp - I think he could hold his own with Russell. I am SO looking forward to this flick! Man, IMDB is really sucking more and more these days. They've made the Nottingham page for "pro" members only. But the message board is still accessible, if you have it bookmarked.

Definitely Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion.
She once played a redhead very beautifully in The Bandits. Prefer Paul Giamatti as Friar Tuck and Daniel Day-Lewis as Robin Hood. Director? I don't know. Maybe Darren Aronofsky or Bryan Singer? Russ should take a break from Ridley's project this time, I think. ![]() |

Ooo! DDL as Robin Hood......that's a good idea! It's hard to know what would appeal to him......but that would be great. I don't know if he's young enough.......maybe.
The thing about Maid Marian is that she has to be.....a maid. Unmarried, untried, un-etc......So probably not too long in the tooth. How about Kate Winslet? I really like the sepia version above, Jess. Lovely......Boots!!! ![]() ![]() |
