Do you can say me what do you mean exact for a pic Vic?
I mean I cannot do a pic with Bud and a ship.

Hubby came back from an Audio Engineering Society meeting last night grinning, knowing that his rabid Crowefan of a wife would be totally thrilled to hear that the opening minutes of M&C were featured during the presentation!
He said it was very dramatically illustrated, as you first hear the creaking sounds of the ship and then the moment when the music swells and they're beating to quarters, it's tremendously exciting from an audio engineering standpoint. (Er... yeah, especially when Jack is buckling up in the dark. ) Needless to say, I was all ahoo! Thanks for those Rome pics, maxi. Gosh, he looked good there. He was slimming down for CM. That's my favorite look on him, shortish hair and trimmed beard. Maybe because it reminds me of the way he looked on the 2001 TOFOG tour.

That's very cool, thanks Cassy. That would be a great site for anyone living in the area, and what a lovely day it would be to sail on one of the schooners one day, along with the Star of India and the Surprise.

Oooo, are you going, Jess? The only thing better than visiting the Surprise would be to actually sail on her. Or get married on her, as someone did not too long ago.

Jess, ARE you going?!! Just told hubby ... WE'RE GOING!!!!
I just wanna take a zillion pix of her with sails unfurled...to be on her while she sails would be too much of a dream! Why of course I'll be there! I think I'd end up getting tarred and feathered if I didn't go and take a bunch of pictures to share with the group!
I'm not sure who all is allowed to sail on her - it may be done by a drawing of names of Maritime Museum members, or it may just be the crew. I'll go over to the museum this week and ask the gals in the gift shop how it's all done. But I'm certain that the opportunity to sail on the Surprise isn't open to just anyone who wants to go along for the ride. (Politics, ya know...) If anyone is also going to attend, let me know what day and maybe we can all meet up and say "hi." I'm so thrilled that she's finally sea worthy again! I had to edit - I just bought a ticket to ride alongside the Surprise and Star of India on November 10th on either the Californian or the Lynx. It's $125 for an 8 hour sail, from 9am to 5pm. Man oh man, this is going to be fun, and again, I will be sure to takes lots of pictures! Tickets are still available for both days and you can buy them online from the SD Maritime Socety's website! ![]() |

Talked to my friend at the Maritime Museum at lunch today, and she told me that the Surprise is sailing with crew only due to Coast Guard requirements - this is the first real voyage since the refurbishment, and they want to make sure that everything runs smoothly before taking on the responsibility of non-crew passengers. But if all goes well, it may be possible to actually get a chance to sail on her in the future.
What's going to happen on the weekend of the 10th amd 11th is that the ships set out of the harbor and head out to sea for the day. Once out of the harbor, they operate only on sail/wind power. The guests on the ships get treated to a breakfast and lunch buffet, so it sounds like it's going to be a real fun day. Plus, sailing alongside the Surprise is going to be a blast. ![]() |
