how that 'not very good' picture is still many people's favorite
Glad was on TV again tonight (as this poor, 'bad' movie often is) and there was Maximus kissing Lucilla - *sigh* - he was so beautiful and the film embodies all the best of a drama - but we all know that, right?
nice to remember the reason for "OUR" season :) Once, always, Russell Crowe "beauty...delight...passion" no contemporary actor is better at conveying an uncluttered personal integrity and nobility of spirit. "a very honest performer with a physical charisma and set of technical skills that make him one of the best actors of his generation" |

I was in my bathroom last night when I heard through the wall a distinctive set of chords. (I can often hear my neighbour's tv/music via my bathtub.) A
bit more careful listening and...yes.....
"You knew Marcus Aurelius?!" "I did not say I knew him...." My neighbour was seeing out the old year with Gladiator. I found myself lingering in my bathroom far longer than normal. (Those here who've roomed with me know that's very long indeed!). Finally, after replaying the sword toss and twirling of the Fluffy White in my head as the music wafted from my tub, I gave in. I cued up my dvd (theatrical version) to "I am vexed...." and watched Gladiator for the 37 1/2th time (not counting the uncounted scene studies I did for Lucilla's Diary). The old year passed away quite literally as Maximus did upon the Colosseum sands. And my heart clenched as it always does. It was one of the best turnings of the year I've had in...years. And a powerful reminder of why almost 9 years ago I braved the undiscovered realms of the internet and discovered an actor who literally changed my life. Thank you, Maximus. Thank you, Russell. Thank you - and Happy New Year - my fellow RCroweholics!

I so agree, Cat. I also agree with Oliver Bundy on his blog and it's quite timely given the comments here.

I was reading about Brunelleschi building his beautiful dome atop Santa Maria del Flore in Florence. I think perhaps your company was better than mine. By the bye, check your email. The moose has landed. Best Line: Maximus: "Brothers, what we do in life... echoes in eternity" Thanks for finding that Cindy. It's something I live by... and my license plate frame shows it to all. And a powerful reminder of why almost 9 years ago I braved the undiscovered realms of the internet and discovered an actor who literally changed my life.I too brought in the new year with Maximus. Never have I stuck it out with any actor as long as I have with Russell and I'm still always anxious for his next movie to arrive. Bottom Line: Gladiator might seem to be only a high-tech update to those sword-and-sandal epics from the '50s and '60s and Ridley Scott elevates the material to be stirring, emotionally rich drama filled with great action and good acting. Hans Zimmer also contributes a memorable score.Amen to that brother. ![]() |

Maximus reeled me in, hook, line, and sinker. I had never taken part in a fandom before in my life. I'd always loved movies but never cared enough about
any particular actor to follow his career or events in his life. No one ever caught my interest enough for me to do that. Then in May 2000, along came Maximus.
Talk about maximum impact! I was so intrigued that I went out and bought a computer and discovered there were these things on the internet called message
boards. Climbed on the Crowelercoaster and haven't gotten off yet. It's been a helluva ride.

To go along with this thread it would be interesting if we asked "How much has being a Crowe fan cost you so far?" LOL. Of course, one can't
compare money versus all the fun and adventures we've had over the years following his acting and musical careers. And I for one would have to say it was
all so worth it!

money? | ||

ve dont need no stinkin' money!!!!!!
Let's see? Let me count the ways I spent money: Seeing all the movies (and multiple times) Buying all video versions (tape/dvds - multiple versions) Buying EVERY possible printed mention/picture/article/paper/magazine/calendar etc, etc, for close on 8 years...................... Making and keeping photos/boxes/shelves/binders/scrapbooks of all events................................................................ Traveling: Movie screenings/Premieres/Band Tours (years of US touring/France/Australia)/Oscar Parties/Rabbitohs game/meeting other fans Computer time/service and other stuff I havent remembered........... hmm....... I figure it's in the thousands - and in the high 5 figures.............................. ~~~~~ worth every penny! i'll ask to have it added, giving mmmaxi her due props, of course! No, wait! You can't give me credit for Crowelercoaster. I don't know
who coined it, but it's been around Croweland for ages. Russell, being human, has been through ups and downs, and so has the fandom. If I remember
correctly, someone said that being a Crowe fan was like riding a roller coaster, and the term was born.
