I liked that article. Thanks Cindy. I totally agree about the music, its just fantastic. Ahh, Last O.T.Mohicans and Braveheart..I love these 2 films and the music in them, but I think Zimmers' Glad music is better than these, its some of the best movie music I've ever heard. Yumas' is darn good too.
Sorry Sid 6.7, your symphony or whatever sucks.

Like Yuma, I find something new to love about this film almost every time I watch it. Like.. those scenes where Russell is onscreen but isnt talking for 20 or so minutes. And..the deleted scene where Proximo tells him "all you do is kill kill kill...".. "they dont want a butcher, they want an entertainer." "So entertain!" And lordy, when Russell gets up and walks as Proximo yells...thud. Total thud moment.

And, lol, when I do stuff like wrap presents or clean I like to have music going...well a few days before Christmas I was wrapping and put on the Glad commentary and listened to that voice and those giggles.And I like when he talks about Connie. Anyway, Glad commentray is good to have goin' when youre cleaning the house etc..

A UK review of Gladiator:

Special Extended Version Of Gladiator Featuring 17 Minutes Of Extra Footage  Ridley Scott (BLADE RUNNER, ALIEN) transports Hollywood to second-century Rome in this rousing historical epic that proudly harkens back to such films as BEN-HUR and SPARTACUS. Russell Crowe plays Maximus, a Roman general who leads the troops in conquering Germania for the empire. When an ageing Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) tells Maximus that he'd like him to rule Rome once he's gone, a classic confrontation ensues between the brave and charming soldier--who wants to return home to his wife, son, and farm--and the jealous and conniving Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the emperor's only son, who is thirsty for power. Bought as a slave by the profiteering Proximo (Oliver Reed, in his last role), Maximus must kill or be killed in the ring, battling to save not only himself but the future of the very empire that he loves and honours. The film features a terrific battle sequence (that recalls the beginning of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN), huge crowd scenes of thousands of people, and even a little romance, albeit mostly taboo. The impeccably choreographed gladiator scenes are violent yet thrilling, flashing by like lightning. GLADIATOR is a glorious spectacle filled with heart and soul.

I was just looking for upcoming releases on bluray and came across this in a bluray forum dated 2-11-09

Inside my copy of Pitch Black, there's a leaflet showing Universal's upcoming titles and one of those is Gladiator.

Unfortunately there's no release date as yet and no word as to which cut it is either.

Our sources have reported to us that Universal and DreamWorks are working on a Blu-ray version of Ridley Scott's Gladiator for release sometime in the first half of 2009. We've actually been hearing this from our sources here for a while, but Bits reader Christian O. e-mailed us this morning from Germany to report that copies of Universal's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor there include a promotional flyer that reveals the title as "coming soon" to the format, so we felt this would be a good time to mention it.

i know you can't play blu-ray on a non-blu-ray player, but does it work the other way around? i don't want to have to replace all my dvds with blu-ray editions!

Yes, you can play regular dvds on a blu-ray player. It makes them look better too. Prices are starting to fall - I saw good deals recently at Target and my local Blockbuster had a stack of them on a special purchase.

What? What? What you talkin' bout? Of course it does... and if you have a widescreen TV, most blurays fill the entire screen... no black bars.

I got my bluray player last year as a father's day present for myself. No, I'm not a father but I'm making up for all the years my ex got all the good stuff and I just got chocolates. And it was on sale for a ridiculously low price.

And Cat, if it makes it any better, my retirement fund gets paid before I do.

Sure it does! As well as blu-ray versions of CM, M&C, LAC , AG, Yuma and whatever else is out there. Yes, I've put the cart before the horse again, but I did it with the dvds and that worked out all right in the end..... That's a great piece of news, Isis. I hope we get a firm date soon.

i've been watching this again - need a little cheering up.
i imagine this has been noticed many times, but i just caught it for the first time. when max is fighting tigris in what was supposed to be his final, fatal match-up, when tigris falls on his back, you can see his visor flip open over his face. but then when max goes over to finish him off, he pushes the visor out of the way.

There was a little blurb in the paper the other day that the Hollywood Wax Museum is selling over 200 of its figures at auction on May 1. The auction is through Profiles in History. I wonder if they are selling Maximus?

I have a feeling they're just more victims of the current economy. Many of the figures are quite old and haven't been very well maintained for some time. Maximus is one of the ones in better condition.
