Piper and Hogan have a chip as well. It does give an added sense of security if they should ever runaway during an emergency.

Re: Pets III | ||

Henry was put to sleep this morning. Im thankful for the wonderful vet who administered the final shot. She was the one who had taken care of him through his illness and she was truthful yet caring.
He passed peacefully at 9:35. I'm sorry I didn't answer when some of you asked about him. I guess I just didn't want to face the inevitable so I didn't discuss his condition much although it's been on my mind every waking moment. Henry was my first real pet but pet is such a common word. He became one of my best companions. My buddy. My cuddlemeister. He was placed in my hands as a ten week old kitten and proceded to spend the rest of the day crying and searching for his mom and his littermates. Finally, I had to go to bed so I moved him to my bedroom and closed the door but he continued to call for his mum throughout the night. Just when I wondered if either of us would get any sleep, I heard his little claws grappling my blanket. He made his way to my pillow, curled up on top of my head and proceeded to suckle on my hair until, finally content, he fell asleep. I was completely in love. He was a coltish kitten, all ears and legs. He had a fetish for shoes and would drag them between his legs like a leopard with an antelope to remote places in the apartment. There were many mornings when I'd have to search frantically for a matching mate. Henry was always contemplative cat even when he was young. He had large eyes that seemed to scan everything, taking in every detail and he would look at you as if he were ready to discuss the meaning of life or recite a Shakespearian soliloquy. It was like an old soul was coming through those eyes. Even as a kitten I started calling him "Old Man". When he was about six months old, he slipped out of the apartment without me knowing. At the time, I lived in a third floor walkup. I was reading the Sunday paper and I started to hear a cat crying somewhere in the building. I just assumed it was one of the neighbors' cats because, of course, Henry was in the apartment. Then it became more and more plaintive so I opened the door and immediately recognized his voice. The poor thing had gone exploring but couldn't quite remember where he lived. He was on the second floor sitting at the door of the apartment directly below mine wailing to be let in. During our first years together, I was working two jobs so it wasn't uncommon to be gone for fourteen hours some days. Henry hated being left alone for that long and my vet suggested getting a companion cat. "Even if they don't get along," he said, "they'll still appreciate the company." So Henry got his own pet when I adopted Khashka and later in his life when Piper and Hogan joined our family. They did help take care of his loneliness even though he mostly just tolerated them. It was fun though to see him put a cocky kitten in their place by simply staring them down then walking away with a top cat swagger. Henry was always ready for a good snuggle. He'd settle onto your lap and nudge your hand or drape himself so that his paws curled over your shoulder with his head nestled under your chin. Everything just melted away when I held him. Someone once referred to him a big orange ball of love. I can't think of a better description. Rest in peace, Hen. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. - Martin Luther King, Jr. |

Ohh, kaspi, I'm so very sorry.
I have tears streaming down my face from your beautiful eulogy and no cat could ask for a better epitaph than "a big ball of love". Rest in Peace, Henry!! Ali ![]() Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Aw kaspi
I am so sorry to hear of Henry's passing, but I know that he had a full and wonderful life filled with lots of love and cat toys. I was lucky enough to have had a lap full of Henry on occasion and I know that he loved you as much as you loved him. He will be dearly missed and will live on in our memories as a great "old man". Kaspi, I'm so sorry to hear about Henry, and I'm fighting back the tears as I type this. Our furry companions touch our lives in such profound ways, and I know how much you'll miss him. But he was well loved and well tended, and he will always be with you. You're both in my thoughts tonight.

Hi.............1st visit here. Kaspi mentioned it. Your Henry was very beautiful Kaspi and as you know I had to put my beautiful dog Maggie to sleep also last week. She was 15 and I miss her very, very much.
She got very sick and just stopped eating. She took the decision out of my daughters and my hands. I hoped she might just go to sleep on her own but ........... That is the hardest decision to make but it is painless, thank goodness. My Maggie ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

When I had my dog Chester put to sleep many years ago, I found this on the internet. I keep it in the box where I keep his (and my cat's) ashes.
I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain Not because I did not love you but because I loved you too much to force you to stay May your fuzzy memories of Henry give you comfort, K. i'm in tears again and can hardly write...
hen and maggie were so cute!!! i so feel with you both! not only because i love my merlin so much, as you did with your loves. but because in a not too far future i have to make this decision by my own. i hope, this moment isn't so close yet - but i have to see the truth, he has diabetes, is hard to medicate, has heart problems and as if this wouldn't be enough now the kidneys make problems too. i'm happy with every day he's comfy, but i know excactly your feelings!!! ![]() |

First time this week I've had a chance to stop by here. Kaspi, you're beautiful remembrance of Henry brought tears to my eyes. I'm so very sorry.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... ![]() |

swept, I love doggie smiles and Maggie had a doggie smile that could light up a room. Thank you for sharing her
Moo, thank you for the lovely little poem. I'm saving it as a reminder and will pass it on. Quote: Definitely! I remember bringing Henry in for a checkup and setting the crate on the exam table. When I opened the door and Henry cautiously stepped out, the vet broke into a wide grin and said, "An orange tabby. I LOVE orange tabbies." wiz, Merlin couldn't ask for a better friend than you. Indulge him as much and as often as you want. He definitely deserves it. And we love hearing about him. I never grow tired of seeing his fuzzy gray face. By the way, I love his treat mouse. I'll have to see if I can find one here. Chattles, thank you for your kind words. I hope we get to see more of Max and Magoo. They never fail to make me smile. I have some new pics of Piper and Hogan to share. I'm really proud of these two pics. The kids were enjoying a sunbeam. ![]() ![]() This is harder than giving up mirrors for Lent. -Stephen Colbert |
