This reminds me of some early Playboy shots. Was Piper holding Willow down after some wild, youthful antics? Thank you and Willow for reminding us that pink toes never go out of fashion. Max must have lots of hair on his belly to cushion the leaves. The Basenji demands manicured
lawn before he'll lie down on anything other than a down comforter. The Lab will heave herself down anywhere.

Was Piper holding Willow down after some wild, youthful antics?Actually, I was surprised to find the two of them side by side. Willow and Hogan are as thick as thieves but Piper still looks down her nose at the young upstart. Willow casually moved her paw over to touch Piper's and I swear Piper had an "Ew!" look on her face. I'm thinking of entering the "Playboy Pose" and "Inner Panther" pics in the American Humane Society's annual photo contest in July. |

Yes, I know I sound like a broken record about Hello. The Humane Society wouldn't rig a photo contest, would they? I need to believe there are some ethics in the world. |

I need to believe there are some ethics in the world.Me too. The American Humane Society is my favorite charity. Not only do they care for animals in need but also children and they support shelters for victims of domestic abuse. They've done fabulous work and they're not as aggressive about getting donations as was my experience with the ASPCA. I had spent over $800 having a tumor removed from my big orange cat's back and had just brought him home when I got a call from a very persistent ASPCA telemarketer. She thanked me for my previous support then asked for another donation. I politely told her what I had just been through plus the fact that I had just been laid off. "Oh," she replied. "I'm so sorry to hear that. Maybe you could afford the mininum donation of $25?" I know the ASPCA does good work and I shouldn't base an opinion on a charity on the basis of one telemarketer but at that point I was so stressed out that it turned me off. I wanna meet Willow!!!You know that can be arranged, Gigs |

Willow looks like a black and white masked kitty I once had named Raffles - after the thief played by David Niven in the movie. It suited her well. She used to
collect small shiny things like earings or buttons in a pile under the bed. When visiting friends and family said their things had gone missing I'd look
under the bed first. She was the only cat I've ever had who could pry open heavy trash can lids and open door knobs. She had another collection - large
dead rodents - on the roof! Great photos kaspi.
C'mon get happy! We'll make you happy! |

Okay, I'm beginning to wonder if thievery is a trait common in tuxedos. Brian and I have been noticing weird little things missing: a bracelet, a
pedometer, and a cat brush among other things. Willow's look-a-like cousin in Maine has a little nest of things that she's stolen and keeps under the
couch. We're suspecting the same of Will although we've yet to find her stash...

I've added a new temp friend in my family. I've joined a local pet rescue group and got a foster cat. He is soooo sweet. (but not sweet enough to
keep). His name is Rusty.

I have a real soft spot for orange tabbies and his big ears and serious expression reminds me so much of Henry when he was a kitten. I'd take Rusty in a heartbeat if I wasn't already over my "two cats per apartment" limit. Fortunately, property management really likes us. |

is it a misconception that orange tabbies are male and calicoes are female?

I've known female orange tabbies but I think the Morris looking cats, meaning those with little or no white, are mostly male. I've heard that all
calicoes are female but then I've also heard a reference to a "Money Cat" which I think is a male calico. They call them money cats because
they're so rare.

My vet once explained it to me by stating that it's primarily female cats who carry the gene that gives their coats 3 separate colors, although, a male cat
will pop up every now and then with the mutated gene.

At the first free spay/neutar clinic I worked at, there was a calico that they tried to spay only to find it he was a boy. The vet took him and named him
"blue moon." She did go ahead and fix him because it isn't something that he could pass on anyway. But everyone there had to come over and
check him out.
Heres a quote for the cat channel website: Most, but certainly not all, orange tabby cats are male. It's about 80/20 male to female. We have many female orange tabbies in my practice. There is no monetary value, per se, associated with a female orange tabby cat. Calico and tortoiseshell cats, however, are almost always female. Here's how it works. To have black and orange in the same cat, you need two X chromosomes. Two X chromosomes mean the cat will be female. Male cats need a Y chromosome and are XY. Occasionally a mutation will arise during embryonic development and a kitten will be born with an extra chromosome: XXY. The two Xs allow for it to be black and orange. The Y makes it a male. This is how you get a tortoiseshell or a calico male cat. They're uncommon (one out of 3000 are male), but don't get your hopes up about breeding them for money. As a result of this mutation, most of them are sterile. Regards John Biebe--A sheriff who became a hockey player. A hockey player who became a Saturday hero. A Saturday hero who defied the NHL! Could you go to this website and vote for the pet rescue group that I belong to? You just have to search under Pet Pawsee or Great Falls, MT. We are a small non-profit group that rescues stray or owner turned in animals and place them in loving foster homes until they find their forever homes. We fix them and supply any medical care they might need. All the money that we use is made through donations and proceeds from craft and bake sales. The shelter challenge gives money to the ones who get the most votes and we could use the money. Thanks, Lisa. PS You can vote everyday. John Biebe--A sheriff who became a hockey player.
