Jess, you must be psychic
I just saw or read something recently where they talked about having crushes on Ernie or Bert as a child. I wish I could remember what it was. My favorites
were Oscar and Grover.

kaspi, I knew we were great friends! My favorite favorite is Grover (esp. SUPer Grover!), with Cookie and Oscar tied for second. And becks, I
don't know but it's a wonderful life tyring to figure it all out...
And jess -- I got to teach little kids (pre-K - 2nd grade) that song (and Rubber Ducky) when I helped teach Summer School music back when I was in college. It was SOOOOO much fun! And teaching the (slightly) older kids the songs from Oliver! was a blast too!

Well as far as The Muppet Show is concerned, I think I have you beat for the most unusual favorite. That would be Lou Zealand and his
boomerang fish.Of course it's hard to beat Gonzo reciting poetry while defusing a bomb

However, Muppet Wiki states that it was merely a happy coincidence... (Yet another case of when the legend becomes fact,, print the legend??) Aw shucks, it really doesn't matter - even now I still end up crying at the end of this much beloved movie... I was too old to enjoy Sesame Street when it first debuted, being of the Captain Kangaroo era. But I loved The Muppet Show as a teenager, and enjoyed every moment of watching Sesame Street with my daughter when she she was small. Grover is by far my favorite, next to Cookie Monster. (Sorry for the edits - wireless keyboard gets a bit temperamental sometimes...)

OK - first: LOVE Beaker! And that was hilarious, especially Statler and Waldorf at the end...
LOOOOOOVE Grover! Wubba Wubba Wubba - AWESOME! See, when I was growing up (in HK), we only had two English TV channels: the 1st started at 4pm with Sesame Street, the other came on at 5pm with Electric Company. My friends and I (in jr. high school) could sing all of the number songs (especially ("My Number Nine Cutie"), 1-10 in español, mnuh mnuh, etc. And then the Muppet Show came out when I was in high school! Yeah, I went to college a complete nerd...
And kaspi, we'll have to have a wonderful viewing party this Christmas!

hkdrs wrote:i knew i liked you! i mentioned this anniversary in my advanced french 3 class yesterday (these are my stepford students - highly motivated, excellent learners; i could practically hand them the textbook in september and say, "i'll see you for final exams in june.") and said that beaker was my favorite; one of my girls said, 'me, tooooo!', and we started mee-mee-meeing together. it was great! it bemused quite a few of them and really confused
some of the others. i spent the rest of the class every few moments doing another mee-mee-mee , which kept them completely off-kilter; i
love doing that with my kids! keeps them on their toes, dontcha know! and who wants to be a boring, typical teacher? someday,
maybe i'll be the kind of teacher i want to be. small steps.
we'll have to have a wonderful viewing party this Christmas!hey! can i come, too? or maybe you can view it on your computer, and we can chat about it!!!!!!!!! zuzu's petals! zuzu's petals! becks

Somehow, your story reminded me of this news item I saw this morning...
Meep Is Not AllowedPosted 11/11/2009 1:52 pm by Ron Hogan
Why would a school ban a word? Apparently, students were conspiring online to do a mass, unified meeping. Why? Who knows why. Probably just to be annoying. Kids love to be obnoxious for no reason. The bigger question to me is what made these kids even aware of Beaker the Muppet, since the Muppet Show has been off the air completely since 2001 and original episodes haven't been made since the year I was born (1981). I guess it's all the Muppet movies and Muppet Babies that have kept Beaker alive. In order to get to the bottom of the story, I called Beaker himself for an interview. When asked for his opinion on the meep ban, he said, "Meep. Meep-meep meep. Meep, me-me-meep, meepmeepmeepmeep." Very strong words from this man of science. now, that's just silly. what a ridiculous ban. if the worst thing the administration of that schools is a mass meeping, they should consider themselves
lucky.
